MaineVu Maine Coons is located in the New York City area. Our motto; “Happy Tails and Happy Hearts”
exemplifies our love for these wonderful cats
who allow us to share their lives.
When I
first decided to try showing a Maine Coon alter
(neutered male), My husband Phil was more than a little
reluctant. He finally caved in and we acquired Dracoonfly Red Baron from
Sharon Stegall. Before
Baron even graduated from the Kitten Class, Phil had
jumped wholeheartedly into the crazy, addictive world of
the cat fancy. Phil is now a TICA Certified Ring
Clerk and the Show Reporter for the Northeast Region.
We travel far and wide to cat shows, as far as
Minnesota, Oklahoma, Florida and Canada. So much
for Phil's notion of not wanting to get another cat or
show them! We even took our beloved domestic
shorthair, Ebony, into the show hall at the age of 19
and showed her to a Supreme Grand Master, Regional
Winner title as a Household Pet.
Our cats have
been shown successfully in The International Cat
Association (TICA) and The Cat Fanciers
Association (CFA). Please check our Show Cats page to see
all of our current and past winners.
Our goal is to continue to improve, protect and
enhance the Maine Coon Breed. We want to
provide loving, healthy, happy Maine Coons as
show cats or pets, that will welcome you when
you come home, follow you around and engage you
in trills and purrs of conversation.
The latest methods of medical screening are
utilized to prevent knowingly passing on
unhealthy genes. MaineVu cats are tested
for FELV and FIV annually. They have tested
clear for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), using
the latest DNA testing available by Michigan
State University. As Ultrasound is still the
most effective method of screening for
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) we have the
hearts of all of our breeding stock tested by a
board certified cardiologist as well as the
newest DNA test to check for one of the genetic
mutations found to be responsible for HCM. Written documentation of the heart screenings
are supplied to each kitten buyer. Although no
breeder can guarantee that a cat’s heart will
not develop the disease, we are comfortable
knowing that all our breeding males and females
have normal healthy hearts before they are bred.
All kittens
will be spayed or neutered prior to
their departure, at 12-14 weeks. Micro-chipping
is recommended during the kitten’s surgery. A
complete medical history of each kitten is
provided listing the vaccinations and deworming when they are ready to leave
our home.
Our
cattery theme for naming the cats we keep leans
toward the legends of the Western and Southwestern
United States as well as the rich heritage of Native American Indians. |
